Maybe it's because the NSFW filter didn't kick in? He went out of his way to add it, I don't think I've seen one in other similar projects. Or maybe it's not that it didn't kick in, but the usage of that particular footage for the preview might advertise the project as endorsing that type of video creation. Guess he didn't hear: The Internet Is For Porn - Avenue Q. Or maybe he did and forgot to replace "Internet" with "AI".

How is this problematic? If this is in some way considered racist, that makes me very sad. It reminds me of how we pass racist concepts to our children just by constantly reminding them of what not to do. If we could all just STFU about this sort of BS, our children would grow up blissfully ignorant about this sort of artificial line drawing. But nope, we have to look for and invent problems to help "remind" everyone that we are not the same. Is the person who doesn't know any better racist? Or the person who does? We should not be finding problems in situations just because different races are involved. The opposite of racist is complete racial ignorance. Anyway, sorry to rant, but this sort of thing drives me nuts.
On the other hand, if this is related to nudity, I am still confused. There's no nudity here, apart from her shoulders. You can see much more with a bikini. In fact, she may be wearing one.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, this is an Asian lady being converted into a European lady, not the other way around. Haha. It just goes to show how good this tool is. To be honest, I'm not even sure if she's Asian, but she's definitely beautiful.

In the top area, click on the ... to the right of the gif files, then press "view file". It's just a couple animated gifs. I've seen controversial media, and this is not that.
if I were to guess, I think the real "problem" is "fake nudity". In the near future, it will be virtually impossible to tell the difference between a real adult movie and a fake one, and that makes a lot of people uncomfortable. Well, it's too late now. Time for society to dump its inhibitions and just let it all out.

There is a point for improvement in face enhancement technology. Today I am going to propose a way to improve the code. Unfortunately, we can only watch with dismay when this great project comes to an end. It is indeed a shame to see that.

I am an technician, but before that I was engaged in market product development. In my eyes, this technology is very valuable. For example, some people don't know what hairstyle suits them. By changing the target person's face, they can estimate whether they are suitable for it. There are many similar cases.Yes, this technology still needs to be improved, such as the adaptation of face shape, angle, and lighting before it can be commercialized.

I don't understand the reason for any interruption of product development, least of all because of the cringe whining of some snowflake on the internet. I believe that most people on github understand this abnormal rhetoric that puts emotions on a pedestal and ignores the legal provisions, which clearly state what is allowed and what is not.

@jarnMod I've spent all of my 51 years in the US and I have absolutely no idea why anyone might consider this racist, nor why anyone would consider either face A or face B to be any more or less 'Asian' than the other one.
My only guess as to why this is deemed 'inappropriate' is that the overtly strapless look of the target might be perceived as a suggestion, or worse as an endorsement, that this code could be used to create NSFW content. This would obviously make the original developer look like they were speaking two contradictory messages, and also worse, that they condone and likely indulge in lascivious depravity beyond the capacity a person of 'high moral character.' This should be understandable by all, everywhere -- society's capacity for pathological sexual repression does seem boundless...

I believe I know why this video is "problematic". Back in the days when I used 4chan (years ago), I would sometimes see thumbnails of this girl in random places when browsing through the board catalog. These kind of threads would disappear very quickly, suggesting that they were removed and OP banned. You can guess why, but I'd rather leave it there.

To this day the majority of people who love this extension still can't explain whats the problem with the gif. I believe somebody got upset by the gif and they pull the plug on everything with is sad.

The author didn't really elaborate, which opened the door for jumping to conclusions. But to be honest, I don't think there was anything wrong with the picture. I think they were just waiting for an excuse to go commercial (dump off the open source version and focus on a commercial version), and doing so without a reason would seem sketchy. so here's a reason.

I don't see any racism or something that can be taken as such and I'm sure everybody else feel the same. For me the developer trust was hurt in the process and decide to unplug everything instead of just remove the access to the person who post the picture and move on. ROOP is a very damn good extension and is a shame that everything went down because of feelings.

For everybody here that obviously seems to be completely out of the loop, the author of this repo was reached out to by journalists from Bloomberg that were writing this article: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-08-24/google-microsoft-tools-behind-surge-in-deepfake-ai-porn
They insinuated that the developers knew of the possible use of tech like this to generate deepfake pornography, with this being "endorsed" by the example image (upper body view of a caucasian woman, seemingly not wearing any clothes out of frame).
The rest is just speculation but I would assume that the author did not want to take this kind of reputational hit, especially when the original example gif was something tamer, and ofcourse this repo does incorporate SFW filters. It is what it is, but I really wish people would stop with the outrage, it's not unreasonable from any parties, blame the journos if anything :)
