- Decoupling based on reference line (RL).
- SL coord system (SLT, or SDT): l_dot wrt t vs l_prime wrt s (curvature).

- Cons: Need to satisfy kinematics constraints in cartesian coord system. Hard to guarantee so when RL in extreme curvature.

- Consistency
- Bellman's principle of optimality. In any optimal policy for a given problem, the remaining steps must also form an optimal policy for the remaining problem.
- Replanned path should be temporally consistent. For every step in the planning, follow the remainder of the calculated trajectory, to provide temporal consistency.
- OBVP (optimal bounded value problem), with initial state (position, v, a) and end state (pos, v, a), and min cost of integral of jerk squared. The solution to the optimal control problem is 5th order polynomial.
- actually 5th polynomial (wrt time, not y wrt x!) is the optimal solution to a much more broader range of control problem.
- Optimization by sampling. If we already know 5th polynomial is optimal, we can sample in this space and find the one with min cost to get the approximate solution.
- Speed scenarios
- High speed traj (5-6 m/s+): lateral s(t) and longitudinal d(t) can be treated as decoupled, and can be calculated independently.
- Low speed traj: lateral and longitudianal are tightly coupled, and bounded by kinematics. If sampled independently, curv may not be physically possible. Remedy: focus on s(t) and d(s(t)).
