I apologize for posting the issue in the wrong place. Could you please delete the corresponding issue in the linkding repository?

Description

I am experiencing issues with the star mark display in the linkding extension for Firefox. The star marks do not appear as expected, which affects the usability of the extension.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Add "https://linkding.link/backups/#full-backup" to linkding
  2. Open the "https://linkding.link/backups/"
  3. Observe the star marks displayed (or lack thereof).

Expected Behavior

The star marks should be displayed correctly, indicating [describe what the star mark is supposed to signify, e.g., favorites, important items, etc.].

Actual Behavior

  • The star marks are not displayed at all.

This issue also occurs when I add 'https://linkding.link/backups' to Linkding, as there are no star marks displayed when accessing 'https://linkding.link/backups/#full-backup’.

Environment

  • Firefox version: 131.0.2
  • Extension version: 1.12.1
  • Operating system: Windows 11

I get your point, but I don't see how to solve that differently. One might very well want to bookmark the same URL with different fragments to have quick access to different sections of a page. Let's say you bookmark the same URL twice with different fragments, and then open the URL without fragment. The extension would show a star, but when you open the popup, which of these two bookmarks is it supposed to edit?

You're right. I often bookmark longer articles and use notes to add annotations. In that case, it’s more than just a simple bookmark manager—it functions more like a reading notes tool. I now realize that the current approach is actually quite effective, this might even be one of linkding's strengths. It's similar to a basic web clipping tool. I apologize for overlooking this aspect, even though I’ve been using it in practice.

Here’s a small suggestion regarding the issue of editing multiple bookmarks with different fragments on the same site:

  1. In the extension form, you could add a clear indicator next to the "URL" field to show users which part of the URL is the root directory and which part is the specific fragment, like "#this is html anchor." Users could scroll or click a button(or icon) switch between fragments to see all the bookmarks for that page.

Alternatively, for URLs with multiple fragments, all the fragments are displayed initially. Users can click on the corresponding URL to edit it, and after saving, they would return to the “show all URLs” page (or add a clickable back button).

  1. Additionally, perhaps a feature could be added to display the note content directly on the webpage, similar to comments in Word or notes in Excel. I'm not sure if this feature is entirely necessary, though, since if I'm opening the page from linkding, I’ve probably already seen the note. This might be more of an enhancement feature. However, linkding doesn’t support annotating specific sentences or fragments within a page, so it might be better to leave specialized tasks to dedicated software.
