Select.Trigger: How to register click and keyboards events within it?

Say I used the select primitive like below:

      open={isMenuOpen}
      onOpenChange={(open) => {
        ...
      }}

      <Select.Trigger asChild>
        <DropdownTrigger />
      </Select.Trigger>
      <Select.Portal>
        <Select.Content
          position="popper"
          className={cx(...)}

          {isSearchable ? <DropdownInput /> : null}
          <DropdownMenuContent />
        </Select.Content>
      </Select.Portal>
    </Select.Root>

I'm trying to register click events, specifically for a "clear" button within the trigger but I can't do so because Radix seems to stop propagation of click events for anything within the trigger. Is there a way I can get around this?

Looks like keyboard events are hijacked as well so I'm hoping the solution works for that too.
