Trying to connect to an Xpra 6.2.0 server results in a zlib error.

When I try to connect to an xpra instance I get the message disconnect invalid compression: zlib is not available.

Could it be that the installation omits some necessary zlib related files?

The version I installed is the 6.2.0 version at https://xpra.org/beta/noble/main/binary-amd64/. because the ./setup.py install-repo script fails with ValueError: unsupported distribution ('Neon', '24.04', 'noble').

The client I'm using is the 3.0.13+dfsg1-1 on Debian Bullseye but the error seems to be server side error.

Your client version is so old that it cannot talk to it.
This version has been EOLed long ago.
No idea why Debian is so far out of date.

I upgraded the client to 5.0.10 and it errors out with an ssh error, but there are also a lot of errors in the server log.

As xpra 6.2.0 seems to be a beta version or may be too new, I install the 5.0.10 version on the server as well and see how that goes.

What is the command to run an Plasma session using xpra?

The command I used is xpra start-desktop :100 --start-child=startplasma-x11 --exit-with-children.

When I look in my command history though it seems I have preferred xpra start :100; DISPLAY=:100 startkde in the past as the start-desktop command has often proved unsuccessful.

And do not use DISPLAY=:XX somecommand

Desktop sessions should use the start-desktop subcommand.
Done DEs require opengl, see docs on that.

I also need to add that it is running on a VirtualBox 7.1.4 system.

I will also test the combos on some Proxmox VMs as well.
