A user was confused by the prompt to display Learn.WordPress.org in German, sharing this feedback:
I was checking out the courses which really seem very well done and will enjoy diving into. However, while I feel very comfortable with the english content, I discovered that there is a featured link to content in my language ("learn wordpress also in german"). I thought this might be helpful to recommend to some of our customers but after clicking on it, the (german) course content is still 90%+ in english.
On my end, when I clicked the "Français du Canada" link, I still saw the fully English site at:
It seems like the language prompts are promising an experience that is not actually being delivered, leading to confusion. I wonder if we should remove these prompts for the time being – what do you think, @adamwoodnz@jonathanbossenger@westnz ? Also cc'ing @ndiego in case this has come up elsewhere.

I wasn't aware these existed, but I agree, if they can be removed they probably should be, until we can decide on a translation plugin and start implementing translated content.
This is just one data point and I'm not sure if it matches the general expectation of this functionality, which is to translate the whole UI. The locale banner is displayed on all the redesigned sites, so it's a consistent part of the experience.
While the course content isn't available in German, most of the homepage is, and we would be making it harder for users to leverage this: https://learn.wordpress.org/?locale=de_DE
fr_CA doesn't share this level of translation unfortunately.
I understand the confusion of this German-speaking person. However, removing the links doesn’t solve the actual problem. The issue isn't really the links but the lack of content in German. Many of the learning materials will always be available in English. We simply need more help with translations and need to resolve the issue with the tools.
Perhaps we could add a message similar to the one used for plugins: "This plugin has not yet been translated into German. Help translate it!" This would motivate people to contribute and make it clearer that this learning module still needs to be translated.
